Program Notes

My junior year had been one of the busiest times in my life, not only as a musician, but as a composer. When it came time to write this piece for orchestra, I wanted nothing more but to write a healing piece of sorts; Something that I felt wrapped up my experience of this year in a cathartic and satisfying manner. An additional problem that I had discussed with my teachers as well of writing so much music consecutively, is that there isn’t much time for new ideas to enter your brain. I decided that I could use this to my advantage, though, and write a piece specifically encapsulating the work I had written this year. I use motifs from my Duet for Horn and Percussion, as well as my wind ensemble tone poem Aliens!? On My Planet!? More Likely Thank You Think. Into an atmosphere that feels very conclusive for this year, hence the title. Postlude is written for the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, and is roughly 4’ 30” in duration.
