Max Whittaker

Composer and Performer

Composer, conductor, bassist, percussionist, producer, and drummer Max Whittaker grew up in a musically rich and diverse environment consisting of, among many things, progressive rock and classical music. He has been a drummer since he could physically hold drumsticks, and attended the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts for jazz drum set. It was there he found his love for classical percussion and consequently classical music. Since then, it has been his goal to create classical music that breathes the spirit of progressive rock and metal, and vice versa. This synthesis of different genres and styles is what shapes his musical voice today.

Max studied his undergrad at Southern Methodist University for music composition, and is currently studying for his masters at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. He has had his music performed internationally by ensembles such as SYZYGY, Viano Quartet, Voces Intimae, Ensemble PHACE, AMF Contemporary Ensemble, the Irving Symphony Orchestra, and more. He has also received accolades for his music, such as the HSPVA Harris Whittles Artistic Scholarship, two ASCAP Morton Gould Awards Finalist Recognitions, and a composition residency at the Irving Symphony Orchestra hosted by SMU.
